Before n After - Writing ( June & Tiare )

We have been learning to consider both sides of a presentation so that we can make an informed opinion. Mrs Anderson asked us to think about our two sides of our own opinion and what can we think about it. To make our informed opinion we had to gather of what we know and make in opinion about it so basically what we think about it. My DLO shows that our opinion are exactly different but we do have a point to it.   

Language Features - Writing

Yesterday, for writing I have to make a presentation on language features. We had to gather all kind language features into this slideshow. This was pretty hard to make but at least I did it at the end.

This week my sister and I have collaborated together to work on this poster. For this we had to make a post about doing adverts and for this we had to advertise that hover bike for others to buy it. ( not in real life) We had put some more colours and some information about this hover bike.

ASB Get Wise

Yesterday afternoon, we had a visit from ASB bank employee name Jeremy. We had talk about being wise with our money and what we can do and how we can earn it, in our kind of age. Jeremy had to talk us through from the easy roads where we take the easy challenges and the Hard roads where take the risky, and hard challenges. After that he talked about how we can earn the money from doing the chores or doing neighbourhood chores, like for example you can ask your neighbour for some help with their gardening or you can set up a bake sale in your street. Also Jeremy talked about having to work for what you wanted to achieve and also do the best jobs you can do but always remember that sometimes people are watching you.    

Story Starters - The Secret City

First of all, we had to go on this website to start on the story I have just done. For this we had we had start off with a story starter which was to write about a weasel who went and found out about this secret city that they have found. This was very interesting because I imagined and hopefully this could paint a picture on the readers head.

Shoe Narrative

As I was purchased from the shop I was living happily with my owner. When he first put me on I was really excited because I have never been worn before. The next day he put me on, I was so surprised because I had no idea of where he was going to take me, he went outside and he started walking, we went somewhere to place that I couldn’t even describe, he was walking and I was sang along, then I stopped because there was something ahead of me that was calling me to come closer, I was trying to stop him but it was to late I went under the mud it was horrible, I couldn’t breath. First I couldn’t even survive through this hideous mud, I was scared of what he would do to me. I was covered in this  disgusting mud, while he was walking I was crying for help, then he came to this interesting thing I could not describe it but it did not look nice, it barked, I got scared it came all the way up to me and dribbled on me, “Eww that’s disgusting.” Than I turned around, and I saw my owner coming , he picked me up and put me into the locker room which was filled of shoes, then they started talking to me. I could smell the disgusting smell of the dog, I could hear the people talking on the little objects, I could taste the slimy dog dribble inside my mouth, I could see the people walking past me texting on their little objects , then I could feel my owner touching me with his muddy hands. Then these other people that looked old saw me and told my owner to go and put the shoes in your locker where it was supposed to be, then he put me in his locker and these friendly shoes was talking to me again, I talked and talked and talked until I was able to get to know them better. Then after awhile I was able to call them “ My Family.”

Today I had worked collaboratively with my friend Afu. For this we had 15 minutes to write this paragraph and had a few couple of minutes to prove read with Afu. After this we had to plan of what was going to be in this paragraph. Than we had go back to back to make this more interesting. After that we were timed and than we had to write one sentence another.

Blue Whale The blue whale is a type of mammal called a cetacean and is a type of baleen whale. The scientific name for the blue whale is the Balaenoptera muscolus. Blue whales are by far the biggest animals in the world. Even the biggest dinosaur that ever lived doesn't come close in size to the blue whale.

Diet To eat, blue whales filter their food through stiff, bony, comb-like teeth called baleen plates. Their main diet is krill (small creatures that are less than 2 cm in size). A blue whale can eat up to 3,600 kilograms of krill a day during its peak consumption period. Blue whales catch their food by diving down to about 500 meters below the surface.

Habitat Blue whales are found in open oceans from the icy waters of the extreme Southern Hemisphere to the Aleutian Islands off Alaska at the northern boundary of the Pacific Ocean. Summers are spent in polar waters because food production is higher there.

Appearance Blue whales are simply enormous. Their heart is the size of a small car. A blue whale aorta (the main blood vessel) alone is large enough for a human to crawl through. They can weigh over 200,000 kilograms! Female blue whales are generally larger than males. Blue whales are light bluish gray on their dorsal side and mottled gray whitish on their bellies. Some have yellowish bellies.

Endangered species The worldwide blue whale population is not known, however, blue whales are considered endangered according to the U.S. Endangered Species Act. For many years blue whales were hunted extensively for their large quantities of baleen, blubber, and meat. Although blue whales are protected, their populations show few signs of recovery.

Blue whales are large mammals that spends their time in the icy oceans.  They only eat krill and are not a threat to any other creature in the ocean.  Blue whales face the risk of extinction if humans continue to hunt them for their baleen, blubber and meat.

Today I was learning about how to unpack the structure of information reports. My learning intentions was to understand the structure of an information report. Doing activity was quite interesting because it was better getting to know better about the Blue Whales.

Sub Paragraph

As the submarine submerged through the subzero temperatures of the ocean, The captain called to the other subordinate subjects who had been listening to Mariah Carey searching for subliminal messages. While they had gone more subterranean that they had crashed into a subway. Through this whole commotion, the cook had been in the bathroom reading the subtexts of the latest Woman’s Weekly.

Today for writing we had to work collaborate with my classmate to do this activity. For this we had to work on a word wall to gather all of the words that begins with sub. Firstly we had gather the words that begin with sub from a dictionary and it has to do something with under or below. This was quite an interesting task to do because we had find words from the dictionary and put it onto a google drawing. After that was all finished we had to make a paragraph that had to make a story using the sub words. I think that my group and I have work quite well as we were helping each other out.

Should NZ Change The Flag?

Should NZ Change The Flag?

Today LS2 had to vote between these to flags which is the new flag and the current flag. Our learning intention was to make an informed choice ( choice based on information ). For this we had to form into our thinking groups and made a T chart that has been drawn on a piece of newsprint. After that we had to gather all of LS2 idea's whether yes or no we should change the flag. Meanwhile out teacher had to give out these papers that had thee our current flag and the new flag then we had to go away and pick one of the these photos that was on paper.

Story Swap - June and Jasmine.

A long time ago there was a house that was sitting there for centuries. The house had a creepy look to it. So I had a feeling to that I should go and check it out for myself. As I slowly walked up the stairs the creek in the wood got louder and louder then I finally open the door. I walked inside the house, the minute I stepped into the house my heart started racing and it felt like I missed a heart beat. As I walked more deeper and deeper into the house I started shaking like an earthquake was happening inside the room. So when i started shaking I had felt a shadow beside me like he was watching my every move I made. Room by room it got darker and darker so suddenly I came up to a room where there was lights to only find sometime that was only usable. Then BAM!! the door shut before my very eyes. I only had one way to get out, and that was to call call someone for help. So as I reached for my phone I finally call someone but none was there. So I tried again an finally someone picked up Yay but it felt like days went or even years pat. So I thought to my self would I have missing? 

Today, R5 have been doing writing. For writing we did 'Story Swap'. For this you had to write a recount about a picture that my teacher found.

Persuasive Writing - Should NZ Change Its Official Flag?.

Should NZ change its official flag?

It is ridiculous changing this flag. Why should NZ spend so much money just to design a flag instead of spending so much money. They should just give to the families who are hopeless of needing money. Some say they want to change the NZ flag because it doesn't represent the Maori people. But some people doesn't care about the flag because it might make a big fuss over the flag. So why is the reason NZ changing the flag?.

Firstly, my reason is crazy, because the flag has been flying since 1902 so what can be the problem now?. Can the new flag represent New Zealanders?. Well I think changing the flag is a bad idea because our ancestors who went to war and fought for our freedom under our flag it might make a big problem just to design a flag but that’s what I think about the NZ flag.

Secondly, I think that NZ should not change the flag because it's been with us through many generations. Our country that is going through a lot just for this flag and spending so much money is just insane, the money that they are going through should just give it to charities and leave the flag as it is.

I can’t believe that NZ want to change the flag. But really changing the flag could be messed up like what if the flag could be a total waste of time if they couldn't find a design to go with NZ. Remember the days when our ancestors went to war and fought for country. Remember the days when we were happy with the flag that we got. But if suddenly change my mind I would go with I don’t know because I don’t really care about the flag changing. Sometimes people can’t make up their minds about the flag.

Besides all that, I would rather go with no because mostly of my family members said yes because because they don’t want the the British empire to interfere with New Zealand and that why should NZ change the its official flag?. Is the new flag going to represent New Zealand? What design should New Zealand go for? What if the flag could be too much to New Zealand? What if the flag could be messed up and could be a total waste of time designing the Flag? and for our last question, Should New Zealand change the flag YES/NO.
